Twitter continues to be one of the most popular social media platforms out there. It is the platform where millions go to send tweets to one another. While most of these messages die out after a very short lifespan, some go viral. A few have even managed to live on to eternity. Together, we will see how you too can make your tweets go viral or, at the very least, spread them further.
Someone made my tweet go viral oh god

What are viral tweets?
While there is no specific numbers associated with what qualifies as viral, it basically means you’re tweet has achieved exceptional success according to your standards. What’s viral for one Twitter account may just be at another day at the office for another Twitter account. 5900 retweets might be viral for you, but it’s no problem at all for Katy Perry:
intention is everything 👁

An important aspect of going viral is determining for yourself what your viral goals actually are.
Why do you need viral tweets?
Before we delve into how you can try to make your tweets go viral, it is important to note why you would want to do it. The whole purpose of the exercise will be to make sure your tweets go out and reach everyone they are supposed to and beyond. You can think of it as a great social media marketing strategy. Your tweet will pass your message on to hundreds of thousands of people out there.
Two famous viral tweets
If you are in any doubt about the power of viral tweets, let us have a look at two of the most famous viral tweets – the first of which still holds the record for most retweets.
— Ellen DeGeneres (@TheEllenShow) March 3, 2014
This tweet that was dubbed as the one “seen around the world,” still holds the record for having the most retweets. Looking at the faces in it, you can imagine why. A star-struck world was happy to retweet it until it was viral.
The second tweet we are going to look at was sent out by a kid who challenged his favorite fast food chain by asking them how many retweets he would need to get a year’s supply of his snack of choice:
HELP ME PLEASE. A MAN NEEDS HIS NUGGS pic.twitter.com/4SrfHmEMo3
— Carter Wilkerson (@carterjwm) April 6, 2017
Wendy’s could have simply ignored him. They didn’t – they cheekily asked for a mere 18 million retweets. Challenge accepted! Wilkinson is now expected to break Ellen’s record. Let’s see how it goes.
What do you need to do to make your tweets go viral?
For your tweets to be recognized as the gems that they are, they need to be discovered and read by quality people. The first people that will read your tweets are your followers. Make sure you have the right followers for the tweets you are sending out.
I wanted to send❤️to each & every one of my followers. Thank U4 being so wonderful to me! #SendingLoveEveryDay

If you think you don’t have enough followers to carry your tweets across, you are the right candidate for purchasing retweets. Buy retweets from a reputable company and you will see your tweet get the initial reaction it needs in order to go viral.
Large number of followers
To increase the chances of your tweets going viral, you will need a large number of followers. Try to focus on creating a large following and then go on to thinking about viral tweets. Apply Twitter techniques to get as many organic followers on board. It takes time, but it is doable.
when you've got lots of followers, who needs a real platonic-bro-that you-move-into-a-third-apartment-with?
— jackie is sad (@cuddleswithphan) April 29, 2017
Alternatively, you can do it the easy way. Buy Twitter followers from a company that knows what they are doing and you could soon have all the followers you want. Twitter is driven by numbers, accounts with a lot of followers are more likely to get more followers and have a better chance of going viral.
Aim for a topic
Sending out senseless tweets won’t really help you, unless you’re leaving everything to sheer luck. Instead, find your niche and stay focused on it. For example, your chances of having a tweet about your biology class go viral are very limited if your followers are with you because they want to know about your exercise routine. Stay focused and engage your followers on one subject or topic at a time.

How can you make your tweets go viral?
For your tweet to go viral you will need the combination of all the points we are going to see next, plus a pinch of luck thrown in. It is very rare that someone has executed the perfect plan and succeeded in getting their tweet to be one of the most popular ones on Twitter. You may not go viral on your first attempt, but that doesn’t matter. Can send out another tweet and try again.

You may want to put a little bit more effort into it then you see above…
It helps if you can get an emotional reaction out of your followers as they will want to share something that makes them react. Make them laugh, cry, or angry… anything except indifference. Tweets have gone viral for having made people indignant; raise some hackles if you dare, but be ready for the backlash that is sure to come back at you.
We all know that online communities can have vicious backlash reactions.
Timing in the Twitter sense implies a combination of relevance and the time of day it was sent out. Make sure you strike the hammer when the iron is hot if your tweet is about an ongoing topic or event. This works best with breaking news or if you are the inside source in an ongoing or unfolding event.
To be fair, the time is almost always right for kitties.
Your rank as an influencer will help propagate your tweets into viral mode. Think of it; you are an influencer because there are a large number of people following you. They believe your tweets are worth seeing and reading. Should you come up with a tweet that is on the verge of genius, you already have the basic “infrastructure” in place to carry it out into the world.
I AM an influencer.
I have influenced dozens of men to stay single forever.

The effectiveness of what you have to say could be undermined by the way you say it. Some words are more effective when it comes to getting a reaction out of people who read your tweets. A few tips:
- Be direct, clear, and precise
- Don’t shorten words unless you really have to
- Never abbreviate your keywords – unless they are abbreviations themselves or are already trending hashtags as is
- Learn how to use effective call-to-actions

Quality of attachment
Adding a relevant and quality image or video will increase your chances of it going viral. Carefully consider each attachment you are about to send out. Make sure it is relevant and of the utmost quality you can get your hands on. Originality also helps a lot.

Studies have shown that tweets with links have a higher chance of getting retweeted. If you can add value to your tweets by giving your readers more information they can consume, then by all means do so.
Using the right hashtags will take your tweets far. People will not only be able to know what your focus point is, but they will also be able to find your tweets using your hashtags. Things will further look up for your tweets if your hashtags are trending. While using them might look simple and straightforward, there is some skill that goes into using hashtags – master and apply it.
Everyone loves receiving gifts and giveaways. If you want to make your tweets go viral, then this is one way to make sure they do. Come up with innovative gifts that people will want to own and offer to deliver it to them if they like, favorite, and retweet your tweets. If the gift is worth it, you will soon see people retweeting your tweets left and right. Of course, be ready to deliver once you decide you have achieved your target numbers.
